Distribute content to customer learning portals

Education
LMC needed to distribute elearning content to the educational (LMS) portals of large customers, ensure compliance with the SCORM standard, and facilitate remote updating of the content of elearning courses.

Scenario

LMC produces a large number of courses, which so far it has only made available to organizations on its own Seduo portal. Here, the internal HR can directly manage teaching and courses. LMC wanted to be able to connect all its elearning to educational portals (LMS from different suppliers) used by larger organizations or companies. Therefore, it also needed to ensure that elearning content met SCORM standards.

The main requirement of LMC was to ensure the easy distribution of courses to its customers' educational portals. The established elearning approach is to export educational content to packages in the SCORM standard, which ensures that elearning content is displayed correctly across different Learning Management Systems (LMS).

However, there are several drawbacks to traditional exports to SCORM packages – complex, decentralized recording of course updates in LMS customer portals and loss of visibility over course usage and compliance with licensing conditions. LMC wanted to avoid this problem.

Other important requirements:

  • possibility of updating elearning content centrally,
  • setting up course licensing,
  • monitoring and control over the use of content.

Proposed Scormium solution

Based on requirements, Sense4code has proposed deploying its own elearning platform, Scormium Studio, which is operated via Microsoft Azure cloud and therefore has no limitations on capacity or location.

Platform operation in a certified cloud ensures a high level of data availability and security, which are regularly verified by penetration tests. At the same time, the cloud platform enables the central distribution of elearning content to client educational portals and its automatic update over the Internet.

The introduction of the Scormium platform will ensure native support for SCORM, AICC and Tin Can standards, and thus compatibility across educational portals/LMS from different vendors.

LMC can set licensing conditions for individual courses at Scormium Studio while keeping up-to-date with the use of all courses across individual customers and their educational portals.

Platform implementation and evaluation

As it was a pilot project, which also included custom development and further expansion, three months passed from the moment of commissioning until the delivery of the finished Scormium platform for LMC.

Today, the implementation of Scormium Studio is a matter of one day. The content creator/distributor prepares the elearning catalogue outputs or directly accesses Scormium to prepare the catalog. Within a few hours, it can start providing standardized courses to other LMS.

Sense4code continues to develop and complement the Scormium platform with new features and improvements that LMC already includes in the pre-agreed license price.

Evaluation

LMC values the ease of distributing and updating elearning content with its large customers, with whom it can build further long-term relationships. Furthermore, LMC acknowledges the need for licensing of elearning for full control over the study and use of courses. From the point of view of investment protection, LMC positively evaluates the ongoing platform innovations included in the price.

All mutually agreed terms were observed exactly according to the agreed dates and without delay. Potential problems with the pilot client were resolved in minutes. Sense4code often knew about the problem thanks to active monitoring and could fix it before LMC even noticed it.

Since its launch, the Scormium platform has been operating in LMC without fail. Customers who draw e-learning courses from LMC into their educational portals are some of the largest companies in the Czech Republic.
